by italian bassists Alberto Rigoni & Simone Vignola.
"the BASStards" is a brand new collaboration between
the italian bassists Simone Vignola and Alberto Rigoni.
After their first meeting during EuroBassDay 2010 they decided
to start a project together focused on the modern development
of the electric bass combining different styles and musical
backgrounds.
Fat riffs, hard grooves and catchy atmospheres are just
some of the elements of this new exciting project.

"Free", the first track of Alberto Rigoni's new
album "Rebirth" (out on May 23rd by Nightmare Records),

The song features also boosting contributions by drummer
Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), guitar player Tommy Ermolli
(TwinSpirits) and keyboard player Federico Solazzo.
Rigoni comments about hooking up with Harrison for 'Free':
"Back in January 2009, I started composing a new solo
album. The goal was to invite some of my favorite musicians
to join me on some of the songs. One of them was Gavin Harrison
who most people know from Porcupine Tree and King Crimson.
I was not sure he was interested, but I contacted him anyway.
He told me that if he liked the feel of the song, he would
do it.
At that point I thought I might have a chance [laughter].
A couple of hours after reading his email, I took the bass
in my hand and started composing the tune called 'Free.'
The day after, I met guitarist Tommy Ermolli (TwinSpirits),
recorded some tracks, and then I sent the tune to Gavin.
I didn't track any drum loops and I left all the parts up
to him. Some days later he sent me back the tracks and they
were amazing! I couldn't have asked for anything better --
I was thrilled."

Italian bass player Alberto Rigoni (TwinSpirits, Solo Artist)
returns with his new solo album "Rebirth" that's
going to be released by Nightmare Records on April
26th (via
Sony / RED distribution).
"Rebirth" contains a wide spectrum of music, from
solo bass settings to more progressive songs. Each displaying
the dynamic playing and writing skills of a young and exciting
bassist in Rigoni, as well as a cast of amazing guests (Gavin
Harrison, John Macaluso, Michael Marning and Yves Carbonne,
to name a few).
World famous bass master Michael
Manring, who appears as
special guest on two album's tracks, says: "Alberto
Rigoni is a real 21st century bassist with a unique musical
vision. His new album "Rebirth" is engaging and
moving and I hope you'll check it out."
Nightmare Records makes now available the artwork, a piece

festival 2011 that will take
place in Uster (Switzerland) from March 4th to 6th.

di Piave (Venice, Italy), to celebrate a release
party for their forthcoming album LEGACY, sheduled fotrelease

signed with Nightmare Records for the release of his
new album.
"Rebirth" shows an extreme variety of tunes, some with
voice and some instrumental, it's a union of experimental
research blended with a solid backbone of melody. Bassists
around the world will want to witness his elegant simplicity
to bring the bass instrument to the forefront without
loosing the rhythem and foundation of the music.
Alberto successfully combines rock-prog-fusion, with
hard-rock-ambient creating a blend that suggests a
poetic mix that is free from any defined genre yet
remains memorable an even catchy.
